Solve from the grid, then check the clue

The solver matches the letter pattern supplied by your crossword grid. For ?R?SS, it checks five-letter words with R in position two and S in positions four and five. Results are candidates, not automatic clue answers: meaning, tense, and crossings still decide the correct entry.

Add new crossing letters as you solve nearby clues. A more complete pattern produces a shorter, stronger list. Common words appear first because most general crosswords favor familiar vocabulary, but the broader list remains available for harder puzzles.

Does the tool solve crossword clues by meaning?

No. It solves the visible letter pattern. You still use the clue to choose the semantically correct candidate.

Can a blank be written as an underscore?

Yes. Both _ and ? are accepted as one unknown square.

Why are some unusual candidates shown?

Turning off common-only includes broader dictionary entries that may appear in advanced puzzles.
