Where the data comes from
Normal site use never calls a dictionary, movie, or video-game API. Source material is prepared offline, validated, versioned, and served as static files.
English Speller Database
The word tools use American English word lists generated from ESDB, previously known as SCOWL. ESDB is maintained by Kevin Atkinson and combines permissively usable sources under an MIT-like licence. ClueMotive preserves the required copyright and permission notice in THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md.
The exact source revision, dialect, counts, file sizes, and checksums are recorded in the public Version 1 word-data manifest.
Wikidata movie metadata
The movie import script queries structured Wikidata records for English titles, release dates, genres, directors, stable item IDs, and sitelink counts. No Wikidata request occurs while a visitor plays.
The generated validation report states how many records were accepted or rejected and whether the 400-record production target was met. Records are also reviewed for title clarity, aliases, suitability, and factual edge cases.
Wikidata video-game metadata
The video-game importer prepares 500 English titles with first release year, genres, developer, platforms, stable item IDs, and sitelink counts. The public game never requests Wikidata at runtime.
The generated report records accepted and rejected candidates. Only factual text is included—never screenshots, box art, logos, quotations, or audio.
What is not claimed
The word list is not an official dictionary for a third-party game. Sitelink count is not a rating, review score, or audience size. The site does not claim complete coverage of English words, films, or video games.
