Privacy policy

This policy explains how ClueMotive uses browser storage, optional analytics, advertising technology, and external data services.

Who operates ClueMotive

Information stored on your device

Movie and video-game guesses, in-progress game state, daily results, difficulty preferences, and recently played practice IDs are stored in versioned LocalStorage on the current browser. Word searches are processed in the browser and are not sent to ClueMotive.

The cluemotive.theme first-party functional cookie remembers your light or black theme choice for one year. Light is used by default when no choice has been saved.

With your permission, a first-party ClueMotive activity cookie stores aggregate page visits, word-tool searches, completed daily games, wins, and active-day streaks for one year. It excludes practice activity and contains no guesses, searched words, account identifier, or third-party tracking ID.

You can decline this optional cookie, change the preference later, or reset the activity totals from the statistics panel. Browser settings can also remove all site data.

Analytics

Google Analytics 4 is disabled unless a production measurement ID, production environment, and explicit enable flag are present. Configured events use safe dimensions such as tool name, input length, result-count range, attempt number, puzzle ID, and win/loss state. Full word input, movie guesses, and LocalStorage contents must not be sent.

Microsoft Clarity is not currently used.

Advertising and consent

ClueMotive uses Google AdSense publisher code. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to this site or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to ClueMotive and other sites.

Visitors can manage personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. Visitors may also opt out of some third-party vendors’ personalized advertising through AboutAds. For users in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, advertising consent is managed through a Google-certified consent management platform that supports the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework.
