How to find words by their first letters
The search checks the beginning of every word in ClueMotive’s neutral word list. Searching PRE can return words such as press, pretty, prevent, and prefix; it will not return a word where those letters only appear in the middle.
A length filter makes a broad beginning practical. For a seven-square answer beginning TRI, set the length to 7 instead of reading every possible result. Common words appear first by default, while alphabetical sorting is useful when you already suspect a particular answer.
Tips for better results
- Use only the letters you know are fixed; one wrong letter can remove the answer.
- Try a shorter beginning if there are no matches.
- For unknown positions between known letters, use the word pattern finder instead.
